As an erotica author, I often hear my fellow writers say,
"I hate it when someone is rude enough to ask about my sex life. As if
writing about it somehow means that I'm using my personal experiences or that they're entitled to know."
For the record, I am COMPLETELY disappointed that all of my
family, friends and acquaintances have been too polite to ask
me such a thing.
Instead of receiving
intrusive inquiries, 7 out of 10 people ask:
"So, have you read 'Shades of
Gray'?"
What I say:
"No, I haven't gotten around to reading it."
"No, I haven't gotten around to reading it."
What I want to say:
"NO, I HAVE NOT READ '50 SHADES OF GRAY'.
It was not well received in peer review."
"NO, I HAVE NOT READ '50 SHADES OF GRAY'.
It was not well received in peer review."
What I wish people would ask:
<snicker> "So, are your books based on your sex life?"
<snicker> "So, are your books based on your sex life?"
What I want to say:
<smirk> "Oh, yes, absolutely. Mr. Snark is a SEX FIEND."
<wink, wink>
<smirk> "Oh, yes, absolutely. Mr. Snark is a SEX FIEND."
<wink, wink>
Why is it that no one ever asks?
So, are your books based on your sex life? Just thought I'd ask :)
ReplyDeleteOH! Thank you so much for asking! Why, yes, it is! Mr. Snark is a sex fiend, you know. ;-)
DeleteThe Daughter wants to read my book but I have said no due to the sex within...spicy but not erotica. Now in addition to telling friends & family "mom writes about sex", she makes faces and says "Ew, I hope its not based on your life!"
ReplyDeleteLOL, oh my god! I've heard almost the exact same thing (different words, same sentiment) from my kids too. *G*
