State of the Snarkology: November 18, 2014
I'm supposed to be taking the next few weeks off blogging with the expectation that the holidays, editing schedules, and children home on vacation will severely impact my time and stress levels. Also, The Snarkology will be moving off Blogger and onto Wordpress sometime in the next few weeks. (Fingers crossed Mr. Snark can help me.)
My new URL will be: http://www.thesnarkology.com/
Breaking from blogging is easier said than done. Not having guests is difficult. My blog feels empty if I don't have new posts up there every day. I'm not sure whether it's a habit or an addiction, but slowing down and stepping back is harder than it sounds.
There's a lot going on in my author life right now. I want to do a status post to bring my friends and readers up to speed.
1. If you haven't heard yet, I delayed the release of Battle Cry to enter it into Kindle Scout. I've got a lengthy post on it here, including an explanation about what Scout is and how it benefits both my career and my readers. I hope you'll take a moment and consider nominating Battle Cry if you haven't already. Thank you!
2. Farah Evers Designs is currently producing an audio book of A Cat's Tale voiced by Lilah Harding. I'm optimistic it will be released before Christmas. I'll do my best to obtain an audio sample to share.
3. I've completed a 30,000 word draft of Valkyrie's Vengeance, the expanded version of The Child Thief, which is currently with a couple trusted beta readers. Once editing it complete, I'd love to release it to ebook at approximately the same time Battle Cry becomes available. I have plans for an audio version to follow.
4. Mated Hearts, the working title for a sequel to The Mating Game, is my planned project for December. It will be my first attempt at a Male/Male erotica story. I'm excited to be returning to Robert Blane, Alpha of the Iron Stone Pack, so his character arc can continue to expand.
5. My plan for 2015 will include a focus on novellas. I have a number of titles that I've started and want to finish, including the Viking Love Slave trilogy, The King's Late Watch, Hell on High Heels, and at least one more novella set in my Loki's Wolves verse. If audio book production proceeds smoothly, I'd love to release audio versions of all my stories eventually.

The State of the Snarkology, Year End Edition
My friend, Sheryl R. Hayes, commented yesterday that the Snarkology was going like gang busters during the 25 Days of Christmas Stories event but then she hasn't seen much from me since then. I was like: "Yeah. I'm tired. Christmas always wears me out." (Technically, it's more correct to say that I wear myself out.)
However, her observation prompted me to post something personal. And--by way of explanation--to mention that the three Snark children are out of school for the next week, so my online activities are bound to be restricted. I have plans to get back to active blogging in January but for the next seven days, I plan to coast.
I've seen a couple mentions of New Year Resolutions. I'm not big on resolutions, especially since I never keep them. Every year, I do write down some writing goals for the coming year. But before I do that for 2014, I thought I should look up my goals for 2013 and see how I did.
I've actually forgotten what they are, but I know I posted them over on Accentuate Writer's forum. So bear with me for a moment while I go locate that post...
<<Drum roll>>
And, I either can't find them because: A) they're not in my journal, or B) they never existed in the first place. Perhaps my 2013 writing goals were merely a product of my fertile imagination.
Eh. Let's look at what I did accomplish in 2013 as opposed to what I forgot to write down.
Anyway, that's it for now. I'll be updating more soon but I'm due to go shower so that I can fetch the Middle Child from his friend's house and then take Miss Bear to the park so she can ride her new Minnie Mouse bike.
Look! Look! Isn't it cute?

Eh. Let's look at what I did accomplish in 2013 as opposed to what I forgot to write down.
- In May, I published the ebook edition of HUNGER MOON. A few
months later, I came out with the paperback version via Createspace. (#2 in the Loki's Wolves series.)
- In summer, I signed a contract with The Wild Rose Press for a 80k erotic paranormal novel that is currently in revision. THE MATING GAME should release in the first half of 2014.
- If I haul some serious writing butt over the next couple days, then I can claim to have completed the first full draft for BATTLE CRY, which will be #3 in the Loki's Wolves series. If/when I do so, then I'm going to celebrate by dong a cover reveal.
- Worth mentioning: I did spend several months working on the manuscript for HELL ON HIGH HEELS, a contemporary romance novel, which has undergone various revisions and incarnations over the last couple years. Originally conceived as a sequel to LEARNING TO FLY, I find myself dissatisfied with how that choice restricts my options. In all likelihood, I'll return to HOHH in 2014 and the novel will once again undergo extensive revisions.
Anyway, that's it for now. I'll be updating more soon but I'm due to go shower so that I can fetch the Middle Child from his friend's house and then take Miss Bear to the park so she can ride her new Minnie Mouse bike.
Look! Look! Isn't it cute?

Finally, bonus feature! A couple snippets from the Snark Family:
(Like most writers, I keep a notebook. These are things that made me laugh but haven't evolved into a post.)The Gym Parking Lot:
As Mr. Snark zips along, Mrs. Snark waves her arms in agitation. "You just passed a perfect front row parking spot!"
Mar. Snark (sneers): "It was a compact space."
Mr. Snark then heads for the back of the lot in Bumfuk, Egypt.
Mrs. Snark: "This is a very compact minivan!"
Mr. Snark: "No it's not."
Mrs. Snark: "Yes, it is. Have you ever seen the width on a
Sienna?"
Mr. Snark: "It's not width that matters. It's length."
Mrs. Snark (rolls eyes): "Pffff. Only to a man. Ask any woman and she'll tell
you that it's girth that matters."
Mr. Snark: "Are we still talking about
parking spaces?"
Mrs. Snark: "I am. But I know what you're talking about."
On Litigious Kitties:
Mr. Snark walks past an octopus of hyper cats wrestling on the floor.Mr. Snark: "Cat nip again?"
Mrs. Snark: "You didn't ask any questions when the cat lawsuit went away. Move along."
Come by the Snarkology's 1st Birthday Party on Facebook!

Writing news:
- In July, I signed a contract for a paranormal erotica novel with The Wild Rose Press. THE MATING GAME is a 79,000 word novel, which should be available in paperback as well as ebook. No release date yet.
- My first blog tour with Goddess Fish is scheduled for September. I'll be touring my paranormal series, Loki's Wolves. More on the tour schedule to follow.
- HUNGER MOON is now available in paperback: Amazon Createspace
To celebrate, I'm dropped the price of the HUNGER MOON ebook on Amazon to 99 cents for a short time.
- In a truly memorable, one-of-a-kind moment, Mr. Snark found a bottle of teriyaki sauce in the fridge that his wife could not locate. Mr. Snark performed a victory dance while chanting "I found something you couldn't!" The celebration continued for a month afterward.
- As it happens, Mr. Snark has just over a month left to realize that our 5th Anniversary is almost here. This year I don't intend to tell him what I want. Instead, I'm going to blog about it and see if he's paying attention. What do my readers think? Will Mr. Snark forget? Will he buy the wrong present? Will he finally go out for beer and never come back? Stay tuned to find out more!
- Miss Bear has made some early career decisions. She has chosen to become either a doctor or a dog when she grows up. Since Miss Bear started carrying around a pink med kit and barking in public, Mrs. Snark has begun telling people that her daughter wants to become a veterinarian as it cuts down on confusion.
- Miss Bear has developed a fanatical devotion to The Micky Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which are shown primarily on cable. Prior to this, the majority of Miss Bear's entertainment experience involved DVDs and streaming video (Netflix). The transition to live television led to Miss Bear's first encounter with commercials. At first the traumatic interruptions to her programming resulted in much boo-hoo'ing. Miss Bear ran to her father shouting "HELP!" whenever commercials came on. Tears were shed. She saw a therapist. However, eventually, Miss Bear grew accustomed to the inconvenience. Mr. and Mrs. Snark have tried to ease the transition. "In our day, there was no pause or fast forward options, Missy."
- The Snark boys, now eleven and fourteen, have entered Middle School and High School. More on the return to school in a future post.
The Cats:
- As some may recall, an unpleasant civil dispute erupted in the Snark household last spring when The Cats hired an attorney and threatened to sue. An ugly exchange of letters between our respective attorneys degraded into mudslinging. In July, the cats filed suit and a California judge ordered us into family counseling. I'm pleased to report that our cat/human family counseling seems to be going quite well.
